SHUMMI US utilizes a three-prong approach to sustainability, focusing on economic, ecological and social sustainability with a goal of having fully automated, zero scrap manufacturing in order to help customers meet their environmental sustainability goals.

“2030 is a big year for our customers to reach their goals of reducing waste and resources. And we take that very seriously.” says Yih. Implementing such things as solar panels for energy, more eco-friendly materials, reducing the consumption of natural resources and meeting ISO standards are just some of their efforts.

Bringing innovation to Elk Grove Village

Longevity is part of SHUMMI’s vision for the future and that they are growing in tandem with their customers' needs. With this in mind, SHUMMI is always looking for ways to evolve and grow. For decades the company has operated solely out of their headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan, and manufacturing facility in China; but in recent years, recognized the need to be more centrally located so customers can physically visit their operation.

The search for a US location led Yih and her team to Elk Grove Village. For the past year, the Elk Grove Village Business Park has been the home of Shummi’s new Innovation Center – a place where all testing and prototyping will take place and where their customers on the east and west coasts can come see the product for themselves.

“We want our customers to be able to come in the morning and leave in the afternoon, and be close to the airport. The customers have been very happy with it. Plus, there is a lot of engineering expertise in the area that is very helpful.” explains Yih.
