    Elk Grove Village opts out of Cook County minimum wage hike

    Elk Grove Village formally opted out of a Cook County ordinance to increase the minimum wage and require sick-leave time.

    The village board unanimously voted Tuesday to opt out of the minimum wage plan, which gradually increases the minimum wage to $13 an hour over the next three years. Another ordinance requires employers to provide one hour of sick leave per 40 hours of work, or about 5 days per year. - Daily Herald

    Elk Grove Village has reinvested in its industrial properties over the last 10 years, and it's paid off.

    In 2016, the northwest suburb's industrial vacancy rate hit 3.98 percent, the lowest among Cook County municipalities in the O'Hare Industrial Market.     New TV ad spotlights Elk Grove pinball maker's decision to stay local

    A Melrose Park pinball machine manufacturer was courted by officials from three states as it tried to find a larger warehouse for its ever-growing business.

    Company officials even received a call from Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who tried to lure them across the border.

    But the pinball wizards only moved 10 miles away to Elk Grove Village, and now they're getting some free publicity because of it.

    Stern Pinball is the subject of the latest Elk Grove television commercial, part of a village-funded $500,000 advertising campaign that launched last spring.     JLL reports Elk Grove Village at top industrial real estate market

    A recent report by JLL shows the O'Hare real estate market, which includes Elk Grove Village, tops the Port, Airport, & Global Infrastructure (PAGI) ranking report.

    The PAGI report was created to grade airports from the vantage point of the real estate stakeholder — "those who invest in, develop, or occupy industrial properties in airport-centric locations." The report notes the O'Hare region's "large population base, central geographic location, complementary rail assets and enormous industrial market" — all of which are important location drivers.

    Elk Grove Village, which is adjacent to O'Hare International Airport, is home to the largest industrial park in the United States. With over 62 million square feet of inventory, Elk Grove makes up approximately 50 percent of the O'Hare industrial real estate market.
